Event Information:
Date / Start Time: The race will start at 7:30 a.m. EST on the campus of Florida State University on Chieftan Way. The half marathon course is flat while the full marathon features a scenic mid section with some gently rolling terrain in the appealing Southwood neighborhood. All portions of both courses are paved.
Wheel Chair Athletes: If we have wheelchair competitors, they will start a few minutes before the open field. Wheelchair participants must pre-register so we can make proper arrangements. Please contact the race director if you intend to participate.
PLEASE NOTE there is a six hour cut off for the main field. Anyone on the course after 1:30 p.m. will be 'swept up' and transported back to the finish area.
Tallahassee Marathon / Half-Marathon History: This is the 37th annual Tallahassee Marathon. Our first marathon was held in 1975. The Tallahassee Half-Marathon has been held since the mid-1980s. This is the seventh year it will be run from Florida State's Mike Long Track.
Aid Stations: We will have aid stations at the start/finish, and near mile markers 2/25, 4/23, 6/21, 8/19, 10/17, 11.5/ 13.5 and 15.5. Replacement Drink: Gatorade
Weather Conditions: Weather in Tallahassee, Florida, can be very unpredictable. Average February temperature for Tallahassee is a high of 67, and a low of 42. February is the fifth driest month with an average monthly rainfall of 4.63 inches.

Bathrooms / Port-o-Lets / Facilities: Port-o-lets are provided approximately every 2 miles along the course. The FSU bathrooms will be open, but we do not have access to shower facilities.

Registration: Registration for the 2011 is available via Active.com (processing fees apply). You may also register via snail mail/check by completing and returning a printed registration form. Members of Gulf Winds Track Club are entitled to a $5.00 discount. Members of the 50-States Marathon Club, 50-States & DC Marathon Club, or Marathon Maniacs Club are entitled to a $5.00 discount. Sorry, there are no refunds given. If you are unable to run due to injury, you may defer your registration to 2012 or transfer your registration to another runner. Deferments and transfers will be granted only due to injury.
Late Registration/Packet Pick-up Information: Packet pick-up will include securing your timing chip and will be on Friday, February 4 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. off of the lobby of the Doubletree Hotel, on Saturday, February 5 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at our expo in the Workforce & Economic Development building on the campus of Tallahassee Community College, and on race morning in the lobby of Tully Gym at FSU (by the start line) from 6:15 to 7:00 a.m. We recommend that you pick up your packet prior to the morning of the race. We do not ship packets or their contents to those who do not get to the race.
Speaker and Pre-Race Pasta Dinner: On the eve of the race for the past few years, we have had a delicious pasta dinner with a guest speaker. Our guest speaker for the 2011 Marathon is Carolyn Mather, columnist for Running Journal magazine, running coach, veteran of over 100 marathons, and Adidas sponsored athlete. Ms. Mather is an RN and completed her PhD in Exercize Physiology at Florida State University.
Our dinner is catered by Riccardo's and is at the Workforce & Economic Development building at TCC the evening before the race (where the expo is). Tickets are $10 and will be available at packet pick up.
Finishing Medals: Finishing medals for both half-marathon and marathon finishers.
Awards: Traditional age group awards beginning with 15-19, and continuing to 65-69, and 70+ including a masters and grandmasters category for both genders for both races. Overall monetary awards $750, $500, $250,$150, & $75 for first five male/female marathon finishers, and of $300, $150, $75 for the first three male/female masters marathon finishers. Time bonuses of $1,000 for first male to break 2:20:30 and first female to break 2:45:06. Time bonuses of $500 for first masters male to break 2:35:29 and first masters female to break 2:45:06. Overall top five male and female, top 3 masters male and female, and male and female grandmasters winners will receive platters. Male and female 5 year age groups three deep in both the marathon and half marathon will receive ceramic mugs. All ceramic work is done by local artist Brian Bachman.
Course Descriptions:
Tallahassee Marathon Course Map & Elevation Chart: New Course for 2011 due to widening of the St. Marks Rails to Trails. Marathon runners will be diverted from the Half Marathoners at 5.5 miles, and will run an out and back through the scenic Southwood neighborhood. The new section of the course is mostly flat with some gently rolling hills between miles 11 and 17. USATF Certification Pending. Refer to interactive course map for route and elevation profile.

Finishing Certificates: Finishing certificates will be supplied to Tallahassee Marathon finishers upon request.
Sponsorship: Sponsorship opportunities are available for you to promote your business while supporting this event and a chosen worthwhile charity / charities with whom the race proceeds will be divided. Businesses or individuals can choose from Presenting, Primary, Secondary, Friend of, and Mile Marker sponsorship levels. Gulf Winds Track Club is a non-profit entity, so your sponsorship is tax deductible.

Charity: One half of the net proceeds from the event will be donated
to the American Lung Association of Florida. The remainder will be used by
Gulf Winds Track Club to support club races and to
provide services and amenities at the 2012 Tallahassee Marathon, in
support of our goal to provide a first-class event.
Volunteers: We are in great need of volunteers both on race-day and prior to race day. Please contact the race directors if you are interested.

Medical Emergency: Since we are a small marathon, we do not have medical tents along the course, but we have Leon County EMS stationed on the course and FSU Medical First Response at the finish line. We will have police officers working with us, and all water tables should have someone with a cell phone to call in case of emergency. We strongly encourage all runners to be properly trained to complete the marathon/half-marathon. In case of emergency, contact one of the race officials and we will contact medical professionals.
Course Certification / Boston Qualifying: Both the Tallahassee Marathon and Half-Marathon are USATF certified. The certification number for the Marathon is pending, and the certification number for the Half Marathon is FL09001EBM. 2011 Tallahassee Marathon times may be used as qualifiers for both the 2011 and 2012 Boston Marathons. Course Cut-off Time and Event Timing: The official cut-off time for the Tallahassee Marathon and Half-Marathon is 1:30 p.m. This will give the participants six hours (13:44 per mile/marathon; 27:39 per mile/half marathon). Champion Chip Timing will be used and timing mats will be located at the start/finish area and at the half marathon point of the full marathon. All participants will receive both a gun time and a chip time. Monetary Awards will be based on gun times, whereas age group awards will be based on chip times.
